Explore & Plan Our Thanks8 Min

    • Ask: 'What kind of thank-you message do you want to make?' (e.g., card, letter, drawing).
    • Gather paper, markers, stickers, and other chosen craft supplies.
    • Ask: 'What special colors or pictures could show someone you're thankful?'
    • Move on when Student has decided on a type of thank-you message (card, letter, drawing) and has gathered their chosen materials.
  3. 3

    Understanding Veterans and Service6 Min

    • Ask: 'What do you think a 'veteran' is?' or 'What does 'service' mean to you?'
    • Explain: A **veteran** is a person who has served in the military to protect our country. **Service**, in this case, means dedicating themselves to this important job. It's about protecting our freedom, often facing challenges far from home. We recognize them by their past roles in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard. Someone who was a nurse in the Army is a veteran; someone who just works on a military base might not be. They choose to serve our country, and that's why we say thank you. How is being a veteran different from being a doctor or a firefighter?
    • Ask: 'Can you think of ways a veteran's service helps us in our everyday lives?'
    • Move on when Student can explain in their own words who a veteran is and what service means, linking it to military contributions.
